What you will I learn?
- Word building: You will learn the prefixes, suffixes and root words commonly used in the medical industry.
- Each system of the body is covered in the course.
- Abbreviations are widely used in the medical industry. You will learn what these abbreviations mean and when they are used.
It takes 3 minutes to enrol and pay. The course takes 40-80 hours to complete depending on your existing knowledge. No need to finish the course in one session! Log in and out as many times as you like, the system remembers which questions you answered correctly.
You have 6 weeks tocomplete your course. After that, your course will expire, and you will not be able to access it.

Who should do this course?
This course is for you if you want to work in medical or allied health administration. Jobs in this industry include medical receptionists, clerks and administrative positions in hospitals, private clinics and allied health practices.
To complete this course you need to:
Identification: Upload a photo of your photo identification to our system (very easy!). Click here to view identification requirements
Unique Student Identifier (USI): Provide a USI. It is very easy to do and is part of your registration process with us and is a government requirement. All training providers are required to collect your USI. Click here to visit the USI website.
Assessment: Please read the assessment tab very carefully. This unit requires you have to have a watch and listen to videos and voice recordings. You are also required to provide voice recordings. Links to free software are provided in the course.
Computer - A desktop computer or laptop with (but not limited to) Windows 2000, XP, Vista or Windows 7, 8 or higher
Broadband Internet access – All assessment is to be submitted using our Learning Management System. You need to be connected to the internet to save and submit assessments in our learning management system. Assessments are NOT accepted by email, post, fax or any other method. Any assessments received this way will be returned.
Word processing software – You will be required to complete typed documents to a standard accepted in a medical practice.
Audio recording device – You are required to record audio of yourself for one assessment. You can use a smart phone, tablet or computer.
Win Zip – due to space restrictions, audio files are to be zipped for submission. Most computers have Win Zip installed. If you do not have Win Zip, it is available from download from the internet.
The course is broken down into small, manageable sections, designed to improve your learning. At the end of each section, there is a practical assessment that allows you to demonstrate your newly attained knowledge and skills.
Throughout the course there are practice activities before each assessment, which allow you to check your own progress, before commencing the assessments. These are not compulsory, but give you a chance revise and prepare before starting the assessment.
The assessment for this course is:
- one (1) multiple choice assessment on Prefixes, Suffixes and Root Word
- one (1) multiple choice assessment on Acronyms and Abbreviations
- one (1) case study on reading, understanding and applying written instructions with medical terminology
- one (1) listening assessment with multiple-choice questions
- one (1) project assessment that consists of:
- handling a complaint
- typing a referral.
For the Case Study and Project assessments, you are required to complete documentation and upload it. Each question will specify the file types accepted. You will need access to Word Processing software such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs. You will be required to upload a completed form, that will require you to either scan and upload a document, or take a photograph (this may be done on a smart phone or tablet) and upload the image. Please make sure any uploaded images are of a high enough quality and resolution that your assessor can read them.
Audio Recording Assessment
As a part of your project, you are required to make a digital recording of you speaking. The easiest way to complete this task is using the voice recording function on a smart phone. Alternatively, there are many free tools on the internet such as http://online-voice-recorder.com/
For the Project assessments, you will be required to complete documentation and upload it. Each question will specify the file types that are accepted. You will need access to Word Processing software such as Microsoft Word or Google Docs. Compressing your assessments
To submit your project, you will need to "Zip" your audio file prior to uploading to the LMS. Most laptops and PC's have built in software that allows you to compress multiple documents into one zip file. Computers vary, but usually it involves selecting all the files, right clicking, and then either "save as" or "send to" zip compressed file type. This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to understand and respond to instructions; to carry out routine tasks and communicate with a range of internal/external clients in a medical environment; as well as use appropriate medical terminology.
It applies to individuals who apply a broad range of competencies in various medical administration contexts. They may exercise discretion and judgment using appropriate knowledge to provide technical advice and support to a team.

How do I start my course? I have paid my money but do not know how to start the course.
From your ‘My Training” screen, click on the name of the course to start.
How do I get to “my training”?
To start your course, click on the name of the course in you "My Training" screen.
Go to www.hia.edu.au
Click log in from far left of screen,
Enter your email and password (this is what you set up when you registered for the course),
Click "Sign in" to get to "My Training".
I have not received my Statement of Attainment. When do I get my Statement of Attainment?
To receive a Statement of Attainment you must have:
1. Completed the course and been deemed competent by your trainer.
2.Provided your identification and USI number.
Your Statement of Attainment will be available for download after you have been deemed competent by your trainer.

To do this, go to Log In from the far right of the screen (of this website).
Enter your email and password (this is what you entered when you registered for the course.)
Beside the name of the course you have completed is a paperclip (in the certificate column), click the paperclip to download, save and print your certificate.
I can’t log in. It says “there was a problem logging you in. Please check the details and try again.”
I purchased more than one course, how do I log into the other courses that I purchased?
Log into your “My Training” account.
To do this, go to Log In from the far right of the screen our website, enter your email and password. From the ‘My Training’ screen, simply click on the course name to start.
In what format are my certificates? Can I save them?
The certificates are in PDF format. You can save the attachment to your hard drive, portable hard drive or memory stick.
Can I print the certificate?
Yes, simply open the PDF attachment and print it.
I cannot find my Statement of Attainment, How do I get another copy?
Simply log into your training account and re-print them.
After I have paid for the course, are there any additional charges?
No – we have only the one fee.
Which payment gateway do you use? Is it secure?
How can I pay?
You can pay online with a credit card, a Paypal account.
Can I use someone else’s credit card to pay for an online course?
Yes. Please fill in the enrolment page with the details of the student. Then on the payment page, enter the details of the person whose card will pay for the course. But remember; make sure you have that person’s permission to use their card.
How do I enrol?
Simply click the “start now” button, complete the student details, and accept the terms and conditions then proceed to the payment page. Once your payment is complete, you will be taken straight to your “My Training” screen. Simply click the name of the course to begin.
When can I start the course? Do I need to receive an email to start the course?
As soon as your payment is processed you are taken straight to your my training screen. Read the first and second questions on this page to learn how to access your “My Training” account.
You will receive an email with your username, password and course details. Please check your spam/junk files if you cannot find it. However, you do not need this email to begin the course.
Why do I need to enter my date of birth during enrolment?
We have to verify your identify. It is a government requirement that we capture this information.
How will my name appear on my certificate?
Our system will print your name EXACTLY as you enter it into the enrolment screen. Please take care to spell your name correctly and use capitals.
What happens if I enter the wrong information during enrolment? Can it be changed?
Remember to be careful when entering your information; our system will print on your certificate EXACTLY what you enter at the enrolment screen.
I cannot remember my password. What do I do?

Do I have to finish the course in one session?

Assessment details for each course are clearly listed on each course pages under the heading” How am I assessed”. Each course contains online assessment which includes multiple choice. Please read the assessment tab for this course. There are NO refunds if you fail to read how the assessment works.
How will I know if I got the question right?
At the end of all the questions, will be given a summary of the questions you got wrong. And the assessment will start again.
How long do I have to finish my course?
Your log in is valid for 6 months. After 6 months, your log in will be disabled.
